“Jagged Little Pill” is a thrilling, rock-driven musical inspired by Alanis Morissette’s groundbreaking 1995 album and infused with new material that expands its emotional world. At its center is the Healy family, who appear to have the perfect suburban life: a high-achieving son, a passionate, justice-minded daughter, and parents who seem to have it all together. Beneath that polished surface, however, each family member is hiding secrets, pain, and questions about who they really are and what it means to be happy.
Mary Jane, the mother, is quietly spiraling from a car accident and subsequent opioid addiction, clinging to the image of being the perfect wife and mom even as her life slips out of control. Her husband, Steve, numbs himself with overwork and avoidance, terrified to face how distant he has become. Their son Nick struggles under the crushing weight of being “the good kid” and moral center, while their adopted daughter Frankie fights to be heard as a queer, Black teenager in a mostly white, complacent town.
The musical explodes when a sexual assault at a party rocks the community and exposes the fault lines in their relationships, their values, and their willingness to confront injustice. Through iconic songs like “You Oughta Know,” “Hand in My Pocket,” and “Ironic,” the characters wrestle with consent, identity, social activism, and intergenerational trauma in ways that feel immediate and deeply human. Ultimately, “Jagged Little Pill” becomes a story about breaking silence, owning your truth, and finding connection and healing in all the messy, imperfect corners of real life.

With lyrics by Alanis Morissette, music by Alanis Morissette and Glen Ballard, and a Tony Award-winning book by Diablo Cody, Jagged Little Pill is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals Corp. Inspired by Morissette's groundbreaking album, the musical tells an original story about family, healing, and human connection, set to the unforgettable songs that defined a generation.
The production features a dynamic ensemble led by Lisa Cortney Benke as Mary Jane Healy, Dan Maceyak as Steve Healy, Adeera Harris as Frankie Healy, Bennett Safsel as Nick Healy, Al Bastin as Jo Taylor, Gideon McManus as Phoenix, Lilli Doll as Bella Fox, and Jason Tobias as Andrew. The cast also includes Karen Carratura, Kiley Rose Burke-Perez, Nicole Pellegrin, Kaity Cherkassky, Julia Shicatano, Cole Russell, and Marquise Neal.
The show is directed and choreographed by Michael Restaino, with musical direction by Adam Magnacca. The production team includes James Russo as production manager and lighting designer, Dan F. Sims as creative company manager, Coldin Grundmeyer as production supervisor, Joey Palazzo and Heather Welsh as assistant production managers, and Rob Delgado as wig designer.
